17 arrested with 204 bags of Indian hemp

Sacks of Indian hemp
Seized Wee1Seventeen persons have been arrested in a dawn swoop at Apesika, a suburb of Ankama Electoral Area of the Kwahu East District in the Eastern region.

The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command also seized 204 bags of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in the operation. Eleven out of the 17 suspects including five females and six males are expected to appear before court today, Monday February 15, 2016 after screening.

The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah told Starr News the police gathered intelligence about the activities of farmers in the area, hence embarked on a dawn operation to arrest the situation.

“This is our first time of embarking on such operational exercise in that area but once we have that much I can confidently say this is the work they do, the village comprises 21 houses and we almost retrieved the suspected substances from every house.”

He said the suspects tried bribing the police after they were busted but the officers refused their offer. According to him, two trips of Kia Truck was used to convey the substances to the police station.

Is this the Penalty of the Century? Messi-Suarez’s unique goal could start a trend in world football

Barcelona: Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez combined to score one of the classiest penalties in recent times as Messi passed the ball into Suarez’s path for the Uruguayan to complete his hat-trick in a 6-1 rout of Celta Vigo on Sunday.
Barca were already leading 3-1 when Messi — who has missed 17 of 83 penalties in his career — was mowed down inside the area after an outrageous piece of skill.
However, instead of handing the spot-kick to Suarez, Messi went one better by rolling the ball into the path of the onrushing Uruguyan striker to slot home.
The goal brought back memories of another Barca legend Johan Cruyff when he and Jesper Olsen played a one-two for the Dutchman to score when playing for Ajax against Helmond Sport in 1982.

French duo Thierry Henry and Robert Pires tried a similar trick without success as they botched a penalty for Arsenal against Manchester City in 2005.
Spanish sports daily AS quickly christened the move as the “penalty of the century.”
And Barca defender Jordi Alba admitted the South American duo had caught even their teammates by surprise.
“Leo always invents things and it was perfect,” said the Spanish international.
“We hadn’t seen it in any training session, we didn’t know anything.”
Yet, some sections of the Spanish media also claimed Barca’s creativity boarded on a lack of respect for their opponents.
“We all remember Cruyff’s goal,” said Barca boss Luis Enrique.
“I wouldn’t dare to do it because I would tread on the ball.
“Some will like it, some won’t, but as Barca players and members of the club, on top of winning titles we try to enjoy our football in a spectacular way.”
Thanks to the win, Barcelona maintained their grip on the Spanish title.
Atletico Madrid remain three points behind as they were 1-0 winners at Getafe with Fernando Torres scoring a first-minute goal.
Real Madrid slipped down to third, a further point adrift of Barca, who also have a game in hand on both clubs from the capital.
Atletico then held on to record their 15th clean sheet in 24 Liga games this season to leapfrog Real Madrid back into second place.
However, Diego Simeone’s men did suffer a big injury blow when Carrasco hobbled off with ankle ligament damage early in the second period.
The Belgian international is now a major doubt for both Atletico’s trips to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last-16 next week and the Madrid derby in a fortnight.
Elsewhere, Sevilla closed the gap on Villarreal in the battle for the fourth Champions League place to eight points with a 2-0 win over relegation threatened Las Palmas.

Fernando Forestieri believes Sheffield Wednesday have taken a page out of the Barcelona playbook in their pursuit of Premier League football.

Owls’ head coach Carlos Carvalhal is not afraid to think big and he urges his players to study how the world’s elite play.
What is good enough for Barca superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar, it seems – where they combine hard toil with talent – is good enough for the Owls, a message their ever-improving team have taken to heart.
The Owls have yet to be beaten in 2016 and sit fifth in the Championship – just four points off automatic promotion.
They thumped four goals past 10-man Brentford on Saturday – their biggest win of the season – Kieran Lee’s goal the culmination of patient build-up and possession.
But it is the work Wednesday do off the ball, leading from the front with Argentinian Forestieri, Gary Hooper and Atdhe Nuhiu, in hustling the opposition, and closing down spaces, which is the cornerstone of their success.
Throw in a midfield that includes the scampering talents of Barry Bannan and Kieran Lee, and Wednesday’s graft without possession is impressive.
“For the third goal it was pass, pass, pass, like Barcelona,” said Forestieri. “No, Carlos says go to the pitch and play, but we train every single day.
“If someone lost the ball, me, Hooper, Nuhiu or someone is quick to get the ball back. We do this in training.
“I have never seen a coach in the Championship who has such big ideas, a big mentality, because he thinks about Barcelona, Manchester City, big clubs.
“Look at Barcelona, they lose the ball, it doesn’t matter if it’s Messi, Neymar, everyone presses.
“We follow this idea, and now I think we are doing well, we need to carry on.”
Wednesday are far from being the finished article, and clearly not in Barcelona’s league, as slack defending in the first two minutes against Brentford nearly saw them concede twice.
Nico Yennaris rushed his shot when he had time for an extra touch to allow Keiren Westwood an easy save and the Owls’ goalkeeper then denied Alan Judge with a fine block.
But the pivotal moment in the game came in the fifth minute, Bees defender Yoann Barbet shown a straight red card for bringing down Hooper, after the striker had got goal-side of him.
Seven minutes later and Wednesday were in front, Daniel Pudil’s deflected cross headed in by Forestieri for his 12th goal of the season.
Hooper added a second when he sneaked in again to half-volley home Westwood’s booming kick downfield.
It was 3-0 just before half-time, some slick passing finally resulting in Bannan picking out Hooper in the area, and he headed down for Lee. The midfielder kept calm to swivel and stroke the ball into the net.
The second half was an anti-climax as 10-man Brentford carried out a damage limitation job, but substitute Lucas Joao capped off the afternoon, drilling home in the 89th minute.
From being the lowest scorers at home in the Championship last season – 16 goals in 23 games at Hillsborough – Carvalhal has revolutionised this team.
Today they are the highest scorers in the division, with 49 goals, and have a strike force that has already plundered over 30 goals between them. Forestieri (12), Hooper (10), Joao (7) and Nuhiu (4) mean Carvalhal has an array of strike talent at his disposal.
Against Brentford, Forestieri was deployed wide to allow Nuhiu and Hooper to play central, a ploy the Owls like using at Hillsborough.
The 26-year-old former Watford striker – enjoying the best goals return of his career, after netting just five times last term – is thriving in S6.
“When Nuhiu and Hooper play, for me it’s brilliant because we attack right, left and the defender doesn’t understand what’s happening,” said Forestieri.
“It’s perfect for us. We need to carry on like this.
“I have played with a lot of strikers, but Hooper is brilliant. Not only scoring, but working hard for the team.
“Also Nuhiu and Lucas (Joao), who came on and scored, helped the team.
“Now Carlos for the next game he has trouble, because he doesn’t know who to put in the starting XI. That’s good.”
The Owls are five points clear of seventh-placed Birmingham, but Carvalhal played down their promotion chances. He dismissed rival managers’ claims this season that Wednesday’s sudden rise up the table is due to spending big money in the transfer market.
Their biggest outlay, £3m each for Hooper and Forestieri, is still some way short of the Owls’ record £4.5m buy for Italian Paolo Di Canio in 1997.
Carvalhal said: “We are outsiders in this competition.
“There are teams more ready than us. Some coaches are talking that we are spending a lot of money; that is not correct.
“We have a budget in the middle of the Championship, in my opinion.”
Sheffield Wednesday: Westwood, Hunt, Lees, Sasso, Pudil, Wallace (McGugan 74), Bannan, Lee, Forestieri, Nuhiu (McGeady 62), Hooper (Joao 80). Unused substitutes: Price, Semedo, Turner, Bennett.
Brentford: Button, Colin, Dean, Barbet, Bidwell, Kerschbaumer (O’Connell 8), Woods, Canos (Saunders 45), Judge, Yennaris (McEachran 82), Hofmann. Unused substitutes: Bonham, Macleod, Swift, Vibe.

Neymar claims Lionel Messi's penalty pass was meant for him

Neymar Barcelona
Was the pass intended for Neymar?
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi made the headlines once again but this time, it wasn’t for his scoring heroics but for assisting Suarez from the penalty spot! The incindent went viral on social media as Messi laid the ball on for an on-rushing Suarez when everyone including the Celta Vigo goalkeeper was expecting him to shoot.
But now Neymar has come out and said that the pass was intended for him and not the Uruguayan. “It was for me, we had practiced it in training!. Leo and myself had practiced but Luis was closer and he scored it.”, the Brazilian grinningly stated.
Barcelona were leading 3-1 before Messi won a penalty, and as always he stepped to take it. When he did lay it off video replays show both Suarez and Neymar attacking it but Suarez got there first and completed his hat-trick.

Nevertheless, Neymar seemed to be happy for his teammate and didn’t think it was selfish saying, “Our friendship is the most important thing. It doesn't matter who scores the goals just that we win the games”.
His Barcelona teammates though seemed perplexed and had no idea that they were planning that move. Iniesta said he wasn’t sure when had they decided to do it saying, “I had never seen them do it but I had heard them discuss it, Perhaps it was for Neymar but Luis was there so he converted it.”.
Left back, Jordi Alba was also bemused and claimed he hadn’t seen them do it training. “I didn't know because it's not usual to pass, but he is always coming up with things," he said. “It went well. The penalty was perfect. I don't know if they talked about it, but they're always trying things.”, he added.
The goal has sparked international debate, firstly on whether it should have been allowed and secondly if it was an act of unselfishness or arrogance from the little magician. Messi was all set to score his 300th La Liga goal after scoring his 299th earlier in the game with a sublime free-kick but instead chose to settle for the assist.
The Catalan club restored their three-point cushion at the top of the league after the 6-1 win over Celta Vigo. The holders also have a game in hand over the chasing pack having played 23 games.
The Madrid clubs had earlier kept up the pace behind the leaders, both of them winning their respective matches to ensure Barcelona didn't extend their lead even further.

FC Barcelona manager Luis Enrique hailed his side’s “spectacular” performance on the night after they blasted six goals past Celta Vigo to reclaim top spot in the league table.

Lionel Messi put on a scintillating show at the Camp Nou to exact revenge against a Celta side that had inflicted a damaging 4-1 defeat upon the Catalans earlier in the season. He curled in a delicious free kick to open the scoring for Barcelona in the 28th minute.
Uruguayan sensation Luis Suarez scored a second half hattrick to take his season’s tally to 39 goals in all competitions – the most by any player in Europe. Ivan Rakitic and Neymar completed the rout by scoring late on inflict a crushing defeat upon the Galician out
Speaking to the media after the match, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique heaped enormous praise upon his players after their breathtaking display against Celta Vigo on Sunday.
“I see these players be even better in training and some things make you stand still,” said Enrique (as reported by football espana). “Playing Celta isn’t an easy match. We lacked finesse in the first half in the final metres.
“It might seem like an easy game but we’re strengthened by this. Historic? I think it’s beautiful. Historic will be when we win trophies.”
Asked about Messi’s outrageous penalty which invoked the memories of Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff, Enrique replied, “The penalty is legal. We all know the famous one, Johan Cruyff. We try to win trophies and in addition have fun. Disrespect? Who talk about that? We have to respect our team. This country accepts a kick more than a piece of skill.
“We know why this happens. It will keep happening and we know where it comes from.”

Moyes convinced LVG days numbered at Man Utd

David Moyes can't see Louis van Gaal surviving if Manchester United fail to finish in the top four.
Van Gaal succeeded Moyes as United manager 18 months ago.
Moyes told Sky Sports' Goals on Sunday show: "I knew Manchester United need to qualify for the Champions League. I think Manchester United need to be there.
"They are a club of status and want to be at that level, if not more. They want to be winning it if they can, never mind qualifying for it. That's what happens at Manchester United. It's that level."
Given his own experiences at United, Moyes has sympathy for Van Gaal in his current predicament.
He said: "There's so much media attention on Louis van Gaal just now. When I lost my job, he was lauded by everybody in football - by you people, the media and everybody else. Now many of you are the ones saying he should lose his job.
"If you go to Manchester United, that's what you get. You get an awful lot of media attention. But I still believe I was the right person to take the job."

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has lamented Manchester United's sponsorship focus.
Aldridge wrote in the Sunday World: "In my playing days and as a manager, Facebook and Twitter had not been invented and yet now we see football clubs basing so much of their business models on their social media reach.
"So when you see Wayne Rooney or Juan Mata telling you to go and watch a new movie in the next few months, there is every chance they are doing it as part of Man Utd's sponsorship deal with the film makers. How bizarre.
"I look at the list of sponsors Man Utd and Liverpool have on their books these days and it is mind-boggling.
"I'm told that Utd's deal with 20th Century Fox takes their total list of sponsors to a staggering total of SEVENTY and when you have that kind of revenue stream flowing into a company, it's easy to see why supporters are not top of their agenda.
"Roy Keane saw this coming many years ago when he highlighted how the 'prawn sandwich brigade' were taking over Old Trafford on matchdays and he was ahead of his time in that comment."
