La Liga Superstar Wanted Summer Arsenal Move

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema was open to joining Arsenal in the summer, only for Blancos chief Florentino Perez to step in.

The Daily Mail report that the France international was prepared to leave the Bernabeu and seal a move to North London, but Perez refused to part with him.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Benzema throughout the summer, only for the former Lyon man to insist that he was happy in Madrid and wasn’t looking for a move.

Benzema featured in 29 of Real’s La Liga outings last season, bagging 15 goals in what was subsequently Carlo Ancelotti’s final season at the helm.

Arsene Wenger is short of options in attack, with Olivier Giroud and Joel Campbell the only fit senior strikers following the news that Danny Welbeck is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Giroud was sent off in Arsenal’s midweek defeat in the Champions League at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb, and will miss the club’s game against Olympiakos at the Emirates on 29 September.
