Manchester United are on red alert amid claims Cristiano Ronaldo could be set to leave Real Madrid next summer.
Ronaldo is said to be ready for a new challenge next summer after seven years at Madrid following his then world record £80million move from United in 2009.
United are desperate to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford to see out the rest of his career, but face competition to sign him from Paris St Germain, who will pay what it takes to land him.
It is understood Real would want a new world record fee of £90m for Ronaldo next summer, believing his phenomenal scoring record and global status would justify such a high asking price.
But sources close to the Ronaldo camp believe a more realistic figure for the double Ballon d’Or winner, who will turn 31 in February, would be around the £70m mark, given his age.

New challenge: Ronaldo is reportedly ready to leave Real

United have twice tried to lure Ronaldo back to Old Trafford since his move to Real and are ready to make it third time lucky next summer should their former No.7 make it clear he is ready to move on.
The Reds would be willing to meet Ronaldo’s £15m-a-year wage demands, on top of the fee, knowing the commercial revenue his return would generate, allied to his influence on the pitch, would more than offset such a huge outlay.

Despite his past history and emotional bond with United, however, it is understood Ronaldo would favour a move to PSG next summer, should he decide the time is right to leave Real.
But that would not stop United making a concerted effort to woo back one of the greatest players in their illustrious history, one still missed by their fans and whose name is still sung by the United crowd.

Red Devil: Ronaldo had plenty of success at Old Trafford

Ronaldo has scored a remarkable 321 goals in 305 appearances for Real and is on the brink of eclisping the club record of 323, held by legendary striker and former skipper Raul.
He could achieve that as early as tomorrow, against Athletic Bilbao, having already plundered eight goals in five games for Real this season, including five in a 6-0 win over Espanyol.
But there is a growing feeling Ronaldo could be ready to end his seven-year association with Real next year, which would spark a major transfer battle involving United and PSG, one the Reds would be desperate to win.
