"You used to see Ronaldo standing in front of the mirror loving himself," reveals Sir Alex Ferguson
The Real Madrid star, renowned more for his pretty boy appearance than his footballing ability during his early days at Old Trafford, went on to prove himself as one of Ferguson's finest ever signings.
In his last three seasons at Old Trafford, Ronaldo scored 91 goals in 155 games to inspire United to three consecutive Premier League titles and the Champions League.
And Ferguson admits he had no problem dealing with Ronaldo, who he describes as a "serious professional".
“You have to embrace it," Ferguson told the Daily Telegraph. "Dealing with an ego doesn’t bother me. You used to see Ronaldo standing in front of the mirror loving himself. But it was a nice vanity.
"The players used to throw jockstraps, boots and all sorts at him. It never bothered him one bit.
“They need to win, these guys: the ones that are cultivating their egos a little bit."
Ronaldo could become Real's all-time top goalscorer if he scores a hat-trick against Granada at the Bernabeu on Saturday.
He is current on 321 goals - three behind Los Blancos legend Raul.
