Barcelona to debut blue ‘Night Rising’ away kits for Roma clash

FC Barcelona have announced that the team will debut their new blue away kits for Wednesday evening’s Champions League opener against Roma.

Barcelona will begin their Champions League title defense against AS Roma in Italy on Wednesday evening and will be doing so in style as they don their new all blue away kits for the first time this season.

The new kit, titled ‘Night Rising’ is a variation of the club’s traditional deep blue that is meant to represent a club “steeped in rich heritage yet renowned for forward-thinking and innovative football.”

The light blue design is accented by a black strip on the sides and around the cuffs of the sleeves and it is meant, according to the club, to “accentuates the players’ physical presence underneath the floodlights” during night games, hence the name ‘Night Rising.’

Finally, the names of the players on the back of the shirt are a uniquely designed typeface that is modeled after the sentinel chimneys of Antoni Gaudí’s modernist masterpiece La Pedrera, an iconic building on the Passeig de Gracia in the heart of Barcelona.
