The majority of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives of the
Klottey Korley Constituency has opposed the candidature of Dr. Ezenator
Rawlings to become the Member of Parliament for the constituency,
describing her as unfit.
The executives have rejected her intention, claiming she is not known in the constituency.
Another contentious issue they have raised is that “the Klottey Korley
seat in question is a reserve of indigenes of Ga State”. Therefore, a
'no-go zone' for a non-indigene like Dr. Ezenator whom they claim is an
indigene of Ewe tribe.
They strongly believe that the intention of the daughter of former first
lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to contest the Klottey Korley seat
is a ploy by her mother to achieve her selfish ambition by using Dr
Ezenator to campaign for her as flagbearer of the National Democratic
Party (NDP).
A youth group calling itself ‘Youth for John Mahama’ in the Klottey
Korley Constituency is purported to be backing the candidature of
Ezenator.
In an interview, a leading member of the Klottey Korley Constituency, Nii Solomon Kwetey, maintained such a group is a ‘mirage’.
“There’s absolutely no group in existence called Youth for John Mahama
in the Klottey Korley Constituency represented by the so-called
spokesperson called Shuaib Mujahid which is backing the candidature of
Dr. Ezanetor as portrayed in the recent publication of some media
houses. It is a scam therefore nobody should believe such a claim,” he
stressed.
He stated that the majority of the Executives including the constituents
vehemently oppose Dr. Ezenator Rawlings’ bidding to become an MP for
the constituency on NDC’s ticket.
They have, therefore, vowed to resort to any means possible to deter Dr.
Ezanetor if she fails to rescind her decision to contest.
The Klottey Korley seat in succession has been occupied by candidates
who are citizens of Ga since 1992 till date with Mr. Nii Armah Ashitey
as the incumbent.
Dr. Ezanetor Rawlings is currently in the race to lead the party as a
parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korley Constituency in the 2016
general elections with Mr. Nii Armah Ashitey (incumbent MP) and three
other aspirants namely Mr. Wakefield Akuaku, Leeford Quarshie, and Nii
John Coleman who are natives of Ga.
The NDC’s parliamentary and presidential primaries election which is
currently generating a lot of controversies among some constituency
executives and grassroots of the party is slated for November 7.
