A former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP),
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie is hopeful the NPP’s current troubles will not
crash the party but the supporters and leaders will unite for the NPP’s
victory.
He, on Eyewitness News, called on the rank and file of the party to
rally behind their flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to help him wrestle power
from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.
Nana Akufo-Addo is currently on a “rise and build” tour of the regions ahead of the launch of their campaign.
Nana Addo has been accused of sidelining the party’s General Secretary,
Kwabena Agyepong from the tour; a situation that has heightened
tensions in the party.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also known as Sir
John, called for calm saying “I believe that with the leadership of Nana
Akufo-Addo, all these things will be put behind us, and we will unite
around a common course of rising up and building this Ghana that is
completely shattered.”
“Nana Akufo Addo will rise out of his hardships and I believe that all
of us will respond to that call to rise up and build including all the
leadership of our party, including Ghanaians from all walks of life and
respond to the call as it came to Nehemiah [in the Bible] and that, all
of them said we will rise up and build. So we are going to do that and
build this edifice so that in 2016 victory will be ours,” he added.
Sir John conceded that the current happenings in the party “is a sad
day for the NPP” but said “I can tell you that together we will build;
all of us including our general secretary, including our national
chairman and all our executives.”
