Real Madrid plot to pip Chelsea to John Stones deal Posted by Rob Parker - September 16, 2015 - All News, Chelsea, Everton, Spain, Transfer News and Gossip Real Madrid are plotting a move to land Everton centre-back John Stones, according to Spanish newspaper AS. The England international, aged 21, was the subject of a succession of bids from Premier League champions Chelsea during the summer window, but the Toffees refused to part company with their young star. And the Blues could now face competition from Jose Mourinho’s former club Madrid if the make a fresh attempt to sign Stones. Citing unnamed British sources, the report claims that Real are now keen to land the former Barnsley youngster. Los Blancos would reportedly even be prepared to offload France international Raphael Varane – rated as one of Europe’s finest young defenders – to Manchester United in favour of bringing Stones into their squad. The Spanish giants would be able to command a huge fee for Varane, aged 22, but feel that Stones would be a better prospect for the future of their backline.
