Young left winger Samuel Tetteh has seen his stock rise ever since his
club side West African Football Academy made it back into the top flight
of Ghana football.
First came the U -20 World Cup in New Zealand a few months ago where he
left an impression on scouts and football purists in attendance with his
performance especially against the Albiceleste of Argentina.
Two months after his exploits in New Zealand Tetteh has been invited by
head coach of Ghana’s U-23 team Malik Jabir as part of the squad for the
All African Games currently ongoing in Congo.
The crafty winger who feels comfortable playing also as a center forward
came close to breaking the deadlock for Ghana in the team’s first match
against Senegal but all his attempts proved futile.
The 18-year-old who was handed an unexpected first Black Stars cap by
Avram Grant in Ghana’s exhibition game against Congo has revealed that
such opportunities allow him to add value to his craft as a player.
“Getting a call up to the Black Stars has really boosted my confidence
and I have gained a lot which I would love to share with my teammates.
Ahead of Ghana’s second game of the group against Nigeria Tetteh
believes that valuable lessons have been learnt from the opening game
against Senegal which will aid them to unlock the defense of their
Nigerian counterparts.
“The match against Nigeria will be a difficult one but we must play at our best.
“We need to focus on how we play by keeping the ball better than we did in the first game.
“We know where we fell short in the first match and we have been working in training on correcting those lapses.
“This is a must win match for us,” he told Citi Sports ahead of the second Group game.
Ghana’s game against Nigeria will be their last in Group B following the
decision of Egypt to withdraw ahead of the competition and will require
at least a point to progress to the next round.
